Sports Injury
Sports Injuries can vary from traumatic to over-use injury and everything in-between. Physical Therapy tends to be associated with recovery from an injury, but at Breakaway Physical Therapy we emphasize injury prevention by emphasizing proper movement, technique and proper recovery. A Doctor of Physical Therapy receives extensive training in movement and biomechanics so we are able to identify and diagnose movement flaws that may be inhibiting performance or may lead to injury down the road, especially in athletes that perform repetitive motions such as a pitcher. Many sports related impairments can be prevented by training proper mechanics, strengthening in a sport specific program and taking the proper steps in recovery including hydration and nutrition.
Why Choose a
Physical Therapist for Performance Training?
Our clinicians have completed various continuing education courses and certifications with a focus on sports and performance training in order to train athletes in injury prevention or return to sport. Ryan and Justin are also prior athletes and continue to prioritize fitness into their lives meaning they understand the desire to not only want to compete, but to be competitive and at the top of their field. Traditionally physical therapy is associated with treating an injury, but often times there is a missing component which is truly preparing the athlete to return to play. In graduate school, Ryan and Justin were part of a research group that conducted a study taking a deep dive into the effect of injury on an athletes mental health. In short, many athletes fear returning to their sport because they haven’t truly been tested prior to their return. At Breakaway Physical Therapy it is not only our priority to help you overcome your injury, but also instill the confidence in you to return to your sport at hopefully, an even higher level than when you suffered your injury!
Our performance therapy also focuses on injury prevention and performance enhancing training by using a system to analyze sport specific movement in order to identify areas of improvement. If an athlete is lacking motion in a joint they will likely compensate in other areas making them susceptible to injury, especially in repetitive sports like pitching. We help identify these areas before they become problematic causing the athlete to miss valuable playing time. Additionally, with functional strengthening and sport specific training, our programs can help athletes improve their skills by improving their body control, strength and giving them the confidence they need to propel themselves to a higher level!
A Physical Therapist is able to help athletes in all facets of their life from performance training, injury prevention through functional strengthening, recovery and if needed, rehabilitation. Our goal is to provide you with a one stop shop where you can receive everything you need to perform well in your sport. The presence of a Physical Therapist can help prevent a minor tweak from becoming a major set back in achieving your goals allowing you a smooth path to achieving whatever you desire!
